Hottest Day of the Year

So, most people go water skiiing, swimming, or play in the sprinkler on the hottest day of the year but not the governor and me. We get dressed up and head out to the hottest place on earth, the beach-- not for some light basking mind you, but to take pictures. We hope you enjoy our mid-july photo shoot!!! -pk

Catchin' Up to Speed!

Okay, so Paul and I are alive... we've definitely just been in our black hole for the summer at camp. Since mid-April we have been at camp doing Track Out camps and then right into our Summer program. Needless to say, we have been very busy (and important haha), but also having a fabulous summer. I am not going to attempt to go through all we have done this summer, but I will post some pictures from the summer given to me courtesy of some friends for uploading purposes. The summer pictures for the most part seem to be a tribute to the Head Counselors (I was one of four) as this was our second year together in these positions...which is very rare for the HC position. So we basically loved ourselves and tried to document everything we did together. Sorry if you get tired of seeing the same four girls-- but oh well. And yes, we are decked out in 80s gear- as we had 80zEnuff come and play for one of our dance nights. Also, Alison, Frisch, Macon and I were the "Party Patrol" this summer as our skit alter-egos- Muffy, Buffy, Cindi and Mindi... so by the end of the summer we were very comfortable in our 80s rags. Other pictures are from the ski show, Head Counselor retreat, banquet, candlelight...and then after camp at mi casa. Enjoy!

Home Sweet Home

Last month, some of my family members and friends threw a "Home Sweet Home" Shower for me in Louisburg. It was great fun, and really just wonderful to be with so many of my friends and relatives in one place. Great food, great drinks and a few little games here and there added to the excitement of the day. It was such a treat, and I am very fortunate to have such wonderful people in my life.

Tempe thought I needed a hair piece.

Laura got the prize for traveling the furthest... South Africa is a long way from NC! Okay, well she actually came from D.C. but originally Africa. This was actually the first time we had seen each other in two years. I guess I ought to thank the SA government for that one! :)

Yeh, I am not really sure what this is... looks like a scene out of a dance recital or A Chorus Line. Always great to have your Seafarer friends with you for moments like this.

That was GREAT cake. I clearly was enjoying it.

What a colorful group! Some of my favorite ladies.

My cute relatives.

What? This isn't a hat? Nope. Its a sweet cooler instead.

Mom and Dad came through with a great present... its a painting of the Carolina Yacht Club. Not only a place full of many great memories, but also where Paul and I will get married.

Don't ask.

Me and Dale in her pretty blue dress.

Mom made a lovely bride. Who knew toilet paper could make such a trendy head piece! haha.

What do all of these girls have in common? Africa. Good answer. Well, other things too. But the first thing that comes to mind is Africa.

A Past President in New Bern!

Okay, so for the first time in about a decade, the NC Primary actually mattered for the Democratic Primary! Therefore, we were graced by the presence of many politicians, one of which was Bill Clinton. He came to "rural country" where his wife's campaign was hitting hard for the primary, and spoke to a crowded house at New Bern High School. Many might not think this is a big deal, but for little New Bern and more importantly, never-noticed Eastern North Carolina, it was a huge deal. Some friends and I made sure to be available for this event. We were very close to the Past President, and David even shook his hand. (We weren't tall enough). It was a bunch of fun, and Clinton was well versed and eloquent as always.

Doing his thing.

Waiting in line to see the Past President.

All Smiles... an unfortunate angle, but all smiles. We were so close!

Stock the Bar and Toolshed!

The first weekend in April, Paul and I had our first engagement party in Elkin! It was a stock the bar and toolshed party, so naturally we got some great libations and tools for the house. Debbie Carson and Chris Groner were gracious to open their house and host along with Cathy and Allen Williams. It was great meeting new people and enjoying some time with the folks of Elkin. All in all we had a wonderful weekend!
Thats us.

Amarula is one of my favorite all time drinks. We were very excited about this.

Paul was most excited about his gifts that ran on motors. I was worried about all the things in the yard that might fall victim to that weed eater.

We are not twins, but we ARE cute.

Afterward, of course Will and Paul put on a show for everyone.
